In March 2013, Wagstaff’s Cranbourne site was subject to a catastrophic electrical fire. The fire was devastating and destroyed 90% of the factory and its equipment.
The company made a decision to rebuild the Sheep processing floor and extend into the previous existing Beef floor.
Although losing the ability to process cattle, Wagstaff was able to build a state of the art Sheep chain and chiller and increase the plants ability to process sheep and calf stock. In late July 2013, Wasgtaff recommenced processing after a 4 month rebuild.
Prior to the fire Wagstaff was processing 3000 units per day. Wagstaff now has the capacity to process up to 5000 units per day.
Works and construction still continue today to further improve Plant efficiency and capacity.
